Thorhaug, Anitra [1], Ewers, Frank [2], Berlyn, Graeme [3].

Non-destuctive and non-intrusive measurement techniques of plant responses.

The workshop will be hands on demonstrations of a series of techniques which are non-destructive and non-invasive to measure plant responses to environmental factors. This is meant to teach the scope, result types, technical aspects, and types of plants or plant parts which can be measured. The workshop will range from photosynthetic RESPONSE measurements to genetic and  environmental measurements of factors. First the various instruments will be introduced, then the group will split into groups of 7 to visit for a 10 minute hands on demonstration of each set of instruments which are being featured. The types of results, usefulness of results, the application of results, and interpretation of results will be explained. The use of various plant materials, size, shape, plant part, and other will also be demonstrated to the group. Some will have a chance to manipulate the instruments under the guidance of the instructors sent. Instruments will range from the Li-Cor machines, to spectral photometers, genetic analysis, ultra microscropes, and other instruments used in student projects and for monitoring environmental conditions. Some student and researcher projects will be also featured.
